Heavy rainfall is set to continue across multiple regions in Kenya over the next five days, the Kenya Meteorological Department has warned.

According to the latest forecast, several parts of the country will experience downpours from Friday, March 27, to Monday, March 31, with some areas expected to receive heavy showers.

The department stated that the rains would be widespread, affecting the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, the Rift Valley, Nairobi, North Eastern, and the Coastal region.

South-Eastern Lowlands and parts of North-Western Kenya will also experience rainfall during this period.

Counties in the Lake Victoria Basin and the Rift Valley, including Siaya, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, Nandi, Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia, and West Pokot, are expected to receive afternoon showers and thunderstorms.

Night showers are also anticipated in these areas.

In the South-Eastern Lowlands, Kitui, Makueni, Machakos, Kajiado, and Taita Taveta counties, along with inland parts of Tana River County, will experience similar conditions.

However, periods of sunshine are expected to return on Monday morning and afternoon.

The forecast further indicates that Turkana and Samburu counties will receive afternoon showers and thunderstorms from Thursday to Sunday, with rainfall easing early next week.

Nairobi and Central Kenya, including Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, and Tharaka, are also set to experience afternoon showers and thunderstorms throughout the forecast period.

In the North-Eastern region, counties such as Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, and Isiolo will receive occasional afternoon showers in the first four days, but conditions will turn drier on Monday, bringing sunny intervals in the afternoon and partly cloudy skies at night.

The Coastal region, covering Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu, and Kwale, along with coastal parts of Tana River County, is expected to experience intensified showers during both the day and night until Sunday.

However, by Monday, the weather will improve, with sunny intervals in the day and partly cloudy skies at night.

As rainfall persists across the country, residents in affected regions have been urged to stay alert and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety.
